Jemmy Button

I like to have “One on one” with Jemmy Button, a yámana indigenous of fifteen years old who together with Fueguia Basket y York Minster was taking captivity in the year 1830 for a Captain Parker King and there, went took to England, where they met King William IV and Queen Adelaide.
It is not clear the reason of the abduction. Apparently was taking as hostage to ask for exchange stoles provisions by indigenous, but their family never came to find there. But the official reason was the savage´s education. They will be an experiment of civilization.
As took Darwin and Fitz Roy in them travel diary, Jemmy learnt to be an Englishman, but when he is return to his land: Wulaia Bay, he also returns to his costumes. It is said that Jemmy had a very particular mood and a superhuman view.
I would like to talk with Jemmy because is a really interesting case of cultures shock and hi life history tell us many things about the ideological context: the young nation of Chili and the mixed identity.
I would ask him: do you like England, tell me about something that take your attention in the trip and tell me about your family.

The rescue of submachine gun

Always I remember a trip to my grandmother´s house in Chiloé, was when I have six years old, I was with my cousins: Constanza, Nicolas and Colombia of ten, eight and seven years old, and my sister of eight years old. We played in the wetland (“humedal”) in front of our grandmother´s house. Chiloé is famous for its long wetlands, this in especial measure as a hectare and have the particularity of when the tide comes in, its cover completely of water and looks as a lake. We played to throw toys or other things in to the river (in the middle of the wetland) from the bridge and rescue when the tide goes out. In this memorable occasion we throw a submachine gun of water. And our plan to rescue was down to the wetland from a gully of three meters and from there make a single line at the river when the submachine passes. The idea was that my cousin Colomba takes the gun toy for the river and pass it to Nicolas, and then at the others at the gully. But, Colomba could not reach, and then Nicolas takes Colomba for the boot and she takes the submachine and fell in to the river. Then, Nico looked at us and shouted: at least save the boot!!!

JGM

My favorite place in Santiago is the Juan Gomez Millas Campus of the University of Chile in Macul neighborhood. I was there for the first time in 2002 with a friend that studied anthropology. In that time I love it because represented for me a space when we meet different people with the same philosophical ideas or ideology of life. I was a dreamer secondary student in that moment. Two years later I can join the university life as a student of art history. But when we have sometimes wished other things, two years later I went to live to Buenos Aires to study there, in awful concrete building of five levels without green areas, with only have a very small schoolyard of concrete too. There studied as a million of stressed people without place to rest (neither the eyes, because the walls was completely occupy with politic propaganda) and without space to do “university life” (in the sense of “nothing”).   In that time I really miss Juan Gomez Millas, with its lawns and trees, its football field and lunchrooms. But overcoat with its very relax and funny students.
Return to university in Chile was a very nice experience in that way. And now that I´m finishing my career I miss this place again. For that I have thought do a Master in History in the future. For return one more time.

be happy

Dears All,
Sorry for the delay…
Well, in response to the topic suggest for our teacher. I have to say that I don´t have any great ambition in this moment of my life, I only can think in my near future. For that, I going to invent something for do this homework.
I´d like be curator of an important museum or cultural center in Paris, like a Louvre or Pompidou Center. I like Paris because is a city with very much cultural life, but also because I have family there (I´d not be far away and alone!)
I´d like have money for a good life for my son, Thomas. And also for travelling with him and my boy friend to the Far East: China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, and also for Africa and the near East for the Arabic countries. Because from Europe is more accessible and affordable that from America.
But sometimes the ambitions turn in a chimera. And we forget the important things, like be happy. Because, I think, isn´t very good for a child change his habitual environment. There for thinking only in my son, I think, the better choice would be live in a country place, but that isn´t very stimulant idea for an art historian like mi… but, who knows?
Finally, I´d like to be happy with my son and my boyfriend, I don’t know how, neither where.
